In his later life, in 1815, Mr. Adams wrote: I desire no other inscription over my gravestone than: 'Here lies John Adams who took upon himself the responsibility of the peace with France in the year 1800.
 
History will give him unique place as the chief organizer of the movement for American independence.
 
George Washington died during John Adams  administration. While listening to this book driving in my car I found the following quotes which are believed to be errors. I rechecked my hard copy and other on line sources of the book and found the same exact wording. It seems odd that the following quotes if transcribed in error were not picked up before publication of the original text or in recent internet copies that appear without comment. It would be a great help to have web site visitors offer to research the original documents. I am changing the text until I can find a authoritative definitive understanding of the original document.

consummated. Washington yet lives on earth in his spotless example; his
spirit is in Heaven. (web site footnote {book error} deplore I believe should be adore).
 
United States as a day of solemn humiliation, ( changed to humility), and prayer; that
the citizens of these States, abstaining on that day from their customary worldly occupations, offer their devout addresses to the ...................
 
And finally, I recommend that on the said day the duties of humiliation ( changed to humility) and prayer be accompanied by fervent thanksgiving to the Bestower....................

Humiliation is used in the same context in the President James Madison  book. I will leave that work stand "as is" for now.
